I’m author Jeff Somers, and I write a lot of short stories. A lot of short stories. I love the short fiction form, and for a few decades now I’ve engaged in an exercise where I write one short story (minimum—sometimes more) every single month, mainly longhand in a spiral notebook with the occasional extra story typed into a word processor.
I do this for a couple of reasons. One, it’s a good way to develop ideas—much better than a few scrawled notes I won’t understand six months from now. Two, it’s a good way to keep my creative muscles in shape; ending a story is a skill, and forcing myself to come up with an entire story in 30-ish days is a good challenge. And three, I enjoy it—and a good number of those stories turn out pretty well, if I do say so myself.
I publish a lot of them, but I have a lot of stories I want folks to read that I haven’t found a market for. So I’m making my own market. Starting October 1st, 2023, I’ll be sending out one new story here every week. That’s 52 stories a year. Some will be older stories some previous version of Jeff wrote, some will be fresh from the notebook. And all of this could be yours for $5 a month. That’s $1.25 per story. It’s a bargain.
So, sign up
why not?
Thanks for reading!
Jeff
